Let's Go on a Visit

Live Clubs in Daegu

We usually listen to the same famous popular music on TV or radio. However, there are people who pursue independent (indie) music. Many people are unfamiliar with indie bands. Indie bands are bands that are not associated with a major record company. Indie bands pursue cultural variety and display music of various genres. There was a performance honoring Kurt Donald Cobain, founder of Nirvana, in "Drug" night club near Hongik University in 1994. It is said to be the first indie performance in Korea. Indie musicians are making and distributing their own songs with small budgets by themselves, not through the big entertainment companies. There are many indie band clubs in Seoul centering around Hongik University, but there are just a few in Deagu. In Daegu, we can enjoy indie music in two clubs, "Live in D" and "Heavy." Live in D is situated around the Gallery Zone shopping mall in Dongseongro. You can enjoy excellent performances cheaply. All ages can go there because they don't sell any alcoholic drinks. Admission is between 5000 and 10,000 won. If you purchase a ticket in advance on-line, you can get a discount of 1000 won. To reserve a ticket on-line for the discount, you have to specify the performance. There is a regular performance every Thursday at 7 o'clock, and you can see other performances on weekends. Live in D can accommodate about 200 people. You can rent this hall and hold performances. Heavy and Live in D have the same features, but Heavy issues membership cards. You have to go to the club for a membership card. The price of the card is 1000 won. The membership card has no expiry date and gives you a 1000 won discount. However, even if you buy the tickets on-line, you don't get a discount unlike Live in D.
