Interview with Julien Meyer

I interviewed Julien Meyer. He comes from France and majors in multimedia design. He is studying Korean at Keimyung University Korean Language and Cultural Center.

1. What is multimedia design?
Multimedia design is based on a combination of different contents like audio, images, animation, and video. Most of the work is conducted by computer. We can use a lot of different mediums such as pictures, drawings, and recorded sound for multimedia designing. I want to have a master’s degree in multimedia design.

2. Why did you choose your major?
The reason I chose my major is pretty simple. When I was a child, I liked to draw and to represent what I think. After growing up, my older brother showed me digital software such as Photoshop. After that, my passion started. Being able to create useful software is very interesting. If you have a computer, wherever you are, you can create multimedia and share it.

3. What is the hardest thing in learning Korean?
The hardest thing is memorizing vocabulary. English has similar words to French, so I easily studied English, but Korean is completely different. As a result, I need to study a whole new vocabulary. I usually hear many words, but I don’t remember the meaning because the words are unfamiliar. I think the solution is repeating.

4. What do you do in your spare time?
After I finish my classes, I review what I learned in class and exercise or hang out with my friends. I like to try Korean foods that I have not eaten yet. I usually go to restaurants or cafes with my friends to eat delicious food and dessert. My most memorable Korean food is ddeokbokki. It was really good. I especially like the cheese one.

5. Which city do you want to visit in Korea?
I have already visited big cities such as Seoul and Busan and Jejudo, so I like to travel to small cities in Korea. I really want to know each city’s characteristic culture, language, and lifestyle. If I have spare time, I would like to visit Incheon. I have visited Incheon International Airport only. I have an interest in visiting there because some friends of mine are living in Incheon.
