Let's Go on a Visit

Art Village in Yeong Cheon

Byeol Byeol Art Village has started to become a public art place. There are 45 various works of art in several places around the village. An ordinary farming village turned into a huge art gallery. All of the works of art in this village have special value because they are eco-friendly: using idle land to display art. Furthermore, a normal tree looks like a work of art because the other works are harmonious with the landscape.

The best thing to see in the Byeol Byeol Art Village is the five-forked roads. The roads are so beautiful they are named New Mongyudowondo (Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land). The five-forked roads are Geodneun Road, Baram Road, Seumugol Road, Gwihomaeul Road and Dohwawon Road. Each has its own specific character.

∙ Geodneun Road
Geodneun Road is the first road you can see when you enter Gasang village. You can enjoy finding the works of art because the alleys are intricately connected, unlike other roads. In particular, you can see many murals. The first work is "Protection and Peace for the Village", which is decorated with hand-made ceramics in a traditional pattern. The second work is "Relievo Constellation Mural" so you can find your birth constellation or your friend’s on the wall. The third work is "Fatal", which is a three-dimensional mural that expresses a pure heart.

∙ Seumugol Road
Seumugol Road has an ecology trekking course through this village. This road makes people go across the stream around the village. Gasang Bridge crosses the stream, and a work called "Wind Whisper" is on this bridge. You can see the work swaying in the wind and you can hear the wind whispering in the work. There is also an otter observatory where you can see wild otters. The observatory is also a work of art decorated with colorful tiles.

∙ Cyan Museum
Cyan Museum is another place to see art in Byeol Byeol Art Village. This museum is built on a closed school site and the building itself is antique. Big sculptures stand on the grassy area in front of the museum. The exhibition of one artist is always held, but the artist and theme changes. If you want to know the theme, you could see it at the Cyan Museum website. In addition, you can decorate an Eco-Bag, and wooden pencil case. The Cyan Museum was selected as "The most beautiful museum in a closed school" by the Association of Korea Travel Writers in 2005.

The village looks sleepy and peaceful. You can walk along the shining stream under the sunshine, and get some rest on a vivid colored bench. Even though it's not spring when plants bloom, you can still walk on peach blossoms carved on the rocky path. If you want to enjoy spring in the winter or appreciate art in nature, you should visit Byeol Byeol Art Village.
