COMpass K


Nowadays, we can see the word COMpass K on banners on the Keimyung University Web site. You may hear the word a lot, but do you know exactly what COMpass K is? If you make many points from COMpass K, you can get an opportunity to get a job. The Gazette would like to introduce it.

● COMpass K


COMpass K is an acronym for Capability & Opportunity Mate for pass, KMU. It was made in June this year. It is a program to manage and check students’ experience related to getting a job. Students can manage their results by themselves, and there are points in each area. It is divided into 7 areas, for example, goal management, major, international experiences, IT, volunteer work, an original idea area, and career path and finding employment.

● How to use COMpass K
Students can manage their specs by accessing COMpass K on the Keimyung Web Information System. Some areas such as grades and approved credits are input automatically. You have to submit documents such as certificates and results from contests to the administrative office in your college. You can also write a letter of self-introduction and resume on COMpass K. In addition, you can get points from each area.

● Points

1. Goal Management
This area is for writing a letter of self-introduction, study plan, and counseling from professors. Students can fill items in by themselves. If students fill out the letter and resume, they can get 15 points for each one. Students can get 2 points when they have a consultation with professors up to a limit of 16 points. If a student requests a consultation with a professor and if he or she approves it, the student can get points. The total score that students can get in this area is 46.

2. Major
There are GPA (Grade Point Average), domestic or overseas internships, and internships in international organizations and government-related organizations. The points are different according to GPA. If your GPA is below 2.5, you can get 5 points and 10 points are added according to your GPA. 15 points are given to students with a GPA of 2.5-2.99, 25 points for 3.0-3.49, 35 points for 3.5-3.99, and 45 points for over 4.0. Experiences of domestic and overseas internships related to their major are input automatically because these courses are managed by Keimyung University. If you experience an internship at an international or a government-related organization, you have to submit the documents. The total score that students can get in this area is 400.




3. International Experiences

This area is for inputting language certification, domestic or overseas student exchange, and experience studying abroad. Students can get 220 points for language certification, 70 points for finishing a student exchange, and 70 points for studying abroad. Students who go abroad to study language at their own expense have to submit documentary evidence.

4. Volunteer Work

This area is for inputting experience as a volunteer, volunteer work in school, and blood donation. 20 points are approved if volunteer work in a foreign country is over 2 weeks, and 2 points are approved for volunteer work in Korea over 2 hours. The total score that students can get in this area is 100.



5. IT
This area is for managing computer certifications such as computer skill certification, ICDL Start, MOS Master, and word processing certification. Students have to submit their original documents. The total score that students can get in this area is 80.

6. Original Ideas

This area is for inputting awards in various contests, patents, inventions, and courses about establishing businesses (chang-eop). Business-related courses include Introduction to Starting a Business, Business Planning, Knowledge-Technology Business Practice 1, Knowledge-Technology Business Practice 2, Business Design Practice 1, and Business Design Practice 2. These courses exist in our school. If you take a course, it is input automatically. The total score that students can get in this area is 150.

7. Career Path and Finding Employment
7-1 Certifications Related to Major

This area is for inputting certifications related to students’ major. Students have to submit their original documents, and the total score that students can get in this area is 180.



7-2 Job Programs
This area is for inputting experiences related to getting a job such as consultations about getting a job, participation in job expos, and job training programs. Job training programs include camps, special lectures about job interviews, and mock interviews. The total score that students can get in this area is 94.

7-3 Special Experiences
This area is for inputting experiences such as study groups of over 3 months, being a company representative, traveling the whole country by foot (kuktodaejangjeong), performances or exhibitions abroad, and Keimyung culture tour. The total score that students can get in this area is 70.

7-4 Courses for a Job
If you complete courses like Career Choice, Strategies for Getting a Job and Entering the Workforce, and Career Choice and Development for Female College Students, you can get 10 points for each course. The total score that students can get in this area is 20. The points are input automatically after completing the courses.

The total score that students can get in all areas is 1,500.

● Benefits
Keimyung University provides benefits such as opportunities for studying abroad, scholarships, and student recommendations. Keimyung will give scholarships totaling 5.1 million won to 1,000 students. It will give one million won to 300 students, 500,000 won to 400 students, and 300,000 won to 300 students.
