Another University in KMU

Have you ever heard about KELI? Some of you have not. Others may know it’s the dormitory where students study English. KELI is short for Keimyung English Language Institute and it’s a program which is living with many international students, listening to English classes, and improving English ability in a dorm. I’ve been participating in that program. I’ll introduce KELI, what I felt, and what I learned.

First, it is about KELI’s classes. They are run with foreign professors in the dorm’s classrooms after KELI students finish all major classes. They have 4 subjects, TOEFL, writing, reading, and speaking, and each subject is conducted in English. By listening to the English classes, I am doing my best to improve my listening skills.

KELI has various events such as KELI Mini Olympics, Halloween party, closing ceremony, etc. They are in each semester. The event which is the most fun is KELI Mini Olympics. We participate in the competition in good faith by making teams including Korean and international students and the winning team is given a prize. At the end of the Olympics, we can be given daily necessaries for living in the dorm according to a lottery.

After the Olympics are over, we have an after party. It’s very very nice! We can build personal relationships by drinking with international students, hearing stories about their countries, and being friends with other majors’ seniors. At first, I didn’t know how they came up with the Olympics and after party with international students. But later, I thought it is a very good way to become familiar with all KELI friends.

During KELI life, I was tired because of classes at night, and midterm and final exams in KELI, like major classes, gave me a burden. However, I felt unhappy every time I missed the classes. I had a chance to make friends with international students, listen to English classes, know new cultures and foreign countries, and teach international students what they want to know about Korea and Koreans.

I’m in the middle of making many good memories in university life, as a KMU and KELI student. From these effects, you want to take part in this program, don’t you? If you have a chance to do the KELI program, I recommend this to you. I’m sure that KELI will give you many things.
