Letters from Readers

Nice to meet you, the Gazette

Hi, I’m pleased to meet you. My name is Hye-rin Kim. I am majoring in English literature at Keimyung University. Through this letter, I want to advise you to read the Gazette and introduce my story.

A month ago, I went to the International Lounge to meet my friend. My friend and I were so bored and so we looked for something to kill the time. When I asked the director of the International Lounge for something we could do, she gave us an English newspaper. That was the first time that I encountered the Gazette. It seemed very interesting. Lots of colorful pictures attracted my eyes and many interesting stories aroused my curiosity. In particular, the comic was so funny.

Reading the Gazette was hard and I could not understand all of the content as some of the vocabulary made me feel dizzy. But, I heard that reading English newspapers is very useful to develop English skills, so I persevered.

As I’m a freshman, I often don’t know what is happening at university. Also, I am not very accustomed to university life, but the Gazette gave me lots of information about Keimyung. After reading some of the contents, I felt it was well-worth taking the time to read the Gazette, and so I decided to read all of the articles carefully. To my surprise, I felt not only that my ability to speak, read, and write in English but also my confidence started to improve.

Now, it is not so hard for me to read the Gazette, and so I encourage you to try it. If you make the Gazette as your friend, I’m sure your understanding of the world will expand and it can change the way that you think.

My First Chance to read the Gazette

Nice to meet you Gazette! I’m Lee Seon-hee, majoring in English Lang. & Lit. When I came to KMU, I didn’t know about the Gazette. But, one of my friends told me about it, so I wanted to be a Gazette member. However, I missed the application period, so I was really disappointed. Fortunately, one of my friends got in the Gazette, so I could still hear about it. As a result, I waited until it was published, and she gave me a copy.

It was my first time to read the Gazette. There are lots of interesting things that I didn’t expect. Information about Korean events will be helpful to foreigners, so I’ll show it to my foreign friends. And, introducing our KMU departments seems useful. It looks simple, but there are articles involving important things that are made clearly to understand.

Furthermore, reading about campus news in English is helpful as I can read about the news at the same time as studying English. Prof. Lyons’ study corner is seems really useful. I’m taking his class, but this seems much easier to understand. The most interesting thing was the ‘Global Keimyung’ corner. I have a lot of interest in traveling the world, so I need some information about that. Thanks to her article, I could find out about these kinds of programs.

Here at KMU, there are a lot of strangers. So, for them, why don’t you try to introduce Daegu in more detail over a period of time? Then, I think it will be more interesting, enjoyable and unique.

Thank you for reading about my opinions. I’ll always be waiting for the next issue of the Gazette! Have a good day.
