Letters from Readers

Hi Gazette

Hi Gazette, my name is Seung-soo Kim. I'm a sophomore in KMU, and my major is Journalism. That is why I'm interested in the Gazette. I know that the Gazette has a large circle of readers in KMU. As you know, I am the one of your readers, too. Last semester, one of my friends in the dormitory was a Gazette reporter, and he recommended the Gazette to me. It was my first time to read it, and I found it to be very fascinating and funny. Anyway, thanks to you, I now have another interest.

Initially, I spent my free time reading the Gazette. It gave me a chance to spend my time usefully. When I read it, I felt that it is easy to understand even though it is written in English. Regardless of my English ability, reading the Gazette can make me more confident in this language. There are very good contents and articles, lots of interesting pictures, and a puzzle that helped me to think about what I was reading.

Nowadays, I look forward to reading the next issue of the Gazette. Sometimes, I would ask my friend who is working at Gazette, “How many days do I have to wait for the next issue?” It is very helpful for me, and there are many useful tips such as grammar, vocabulary, and how to read English articles. Furthermore, the Gazette is packed with useful information. It always deals with familiar themes like festivals and interesting events held at Keimyung University.

Above all, I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to write my opinion. I have really wanted to show my feelings to the Gazette. Having studied some things about journalism, I can say that I am satisfied with this newspaper. I learned that the three conditions to make a good journal and newspaper are the 3Cs: conciseness; correctness; and clarity. I think that the Gazette meets the requirements perfectly. As I finish my letter, I hope everything works out for you!

My New Friend, the Gazette

Hello Gazette readers! I’m Gu Yoo-na, and I am majoring in English Lang. & Lit. Not long ago, I knew only King Konglish and the puzzle in the Gazette because these two sections were easier to read than the other parts. However, I read the 145th newspaper in detail after I got a chance to write a short comment for letters from readers.

After reading the newspaper, I found that there are many interesting and informative sections, and this has changed my perception of the Gazette. The most impressive articles of that issue to me was the cover story on the first page, and Let’s go on a visit! on the last page.

The title, Time Management, written in red on the cover story, caught my eyes. It is an interesting subject for me because I wanted to manage my time better this semester. Among the tips of the article, the way to prioritize using a table helped me a lot so I use it nowadays.

The Let’s go on a visit! section attracted me because I love to take trips. I was glad to learn about the beautiful attractions of Ulsan because I didn’t know much about Ulsan despite it being near to Daegu. Beautiful pictures reduced the burden of the reading in English, and also made me more curious about Ulsan.

These sections were particularly interesting to me because they talked about my concerns, but the other sections dealt with various subjects and were all useful so I got a lot of information by reading them all.

I am really pleased to know that, despite it being late to publish, a new issue of the Gazette will soon arrive. If you are afraid of English newspapers, I recommend starting with the Gazette.
