Traveling Around Gyeongju by Bicycle



At least once, you might have been to Gyeongju to see historic sites or go on a picnic. The Gazette would like to recommend some wonderful places where you and your friends can enjoy by bicycle.


① Gyeongju Ch'oe Family Residence

Gyeongju Ch'oe Family Residence was the Gyeongju Ch’oes’ main family living area. It was built around 1700. It consisted of Mungan-Chae, Sarang-Chae, An-Chae, a shrine, and a storeroom. Originally, it had 99 rooms, but Sarang-Chae and a separate house were burned in 1970. Now, only the foundation stone remains.


② Kyerim (forest)

Kyerim is located between Cheomseongdae Observatory and Walsung. The legend of Kim Al-ji, progenitor of Gyeongju Kim, says that he was born here. Originally, it was called Sirim and Gurim.


③ Gyeongju Imhaejeonji (Anapji Pond)

Anapji Pond is in the area where the queen lived during the United Silla dynasty. There are lots of annexes and gardens in it. It is a typical pond of Silla and many beautiful flowers and trees have been planted, and rare and precious animals are raised there. When there’s a happy occasion of the country or special guests, they have a banquet around the pond, Imhaejeon, and other annexes.


④ Gyeongju National Museum

Gyeongju National Museum exhibits relics from the Silla dynasty. It was started by the Gyeongju Historic Spot Preservation society in 1913, developed by the national museum of Gyeonju annexes in 1945, and opened formally in 1975. They separated it into an archeology hall, an art hall, Anapji hall, an exhibition area in the museum garden, and they also have a museum for children so as to help youngsters develop interest in and understand our culture.
