Letters from Readers

The Greatest Gazette

We, students of Keimyung University, read university newspapers to get some news about our school. Campus newspapers put a lot of information and the latest school news and help students and faculty members locate information easily and quickly. Hence, campus newspapers are one of the most important materials for students here. Moreover, the number of foreign students has been increasing greatly nowadays. For foreign exchange students, the only English newspaper in Keimyung - the Keimyung Gazette , provides useful information and tips on life in Keimyung and Korea.

The Gazette has also helped me to study English through their various sections, since I first read it during my freshman year. Initially, I felt confused because it was very unfamiliar to me. In those days, I didn't study English hard so I was poor at English because I didn’t think English would be important in my life at that time. From the moment I recognized the importance of English, I tried to read and study English with the Gazette . Now my English ability has much improved.

However, I want to say something to the Gazette : I wish it was published more frequently. I think most other students expect the Gazette to be published more often like me so that they can read English material more often.

I am not afraid of English anymore because I could gain confidence in English through the Gazette . I feel very pleased to write this letter now. I owe this pleasant feeling and my growth to the Gazette . I wish the Gazette can always flourish and grow until the day comes when the Gazette is the best English newspaper in Korea.

How about starting the new semester with the Gazette?

Three months of winter vacation after the final tests was just happiness to me at first. However, I realized that the most important thing I had to do during the time was to use the period meaningfully.

Some people spend their vacation studying to prepare for their future and others experience various things, such as dating, meeting friends, or reading books to gain wisdom. However, lazy people kill time without any purpose like hibernating bears. Actually, I also used to spend my vacation doing nothing but oversleeping and overeating. By doing that, I’ve already wasted a lot of my time. So, I’ve decided to do something valuable during this vacation; I decided to write a letter to the Gazette .

I live in Yeongju. The fact that I live in the country sometimes make me act idly and think narrowly. If I don’t try to work diligently, it’s so easy to get lazy. One day, I was at home and spent a whole day doing nothing. Around that time, a friend introduced the Gazette to me and I could see diligent people in the Gazette . Upon realizing that they were different from me I determined that I would rather challenge myself than regret my life, and so I decided to restart my life. I started to study English and read many books. Like the reporters of my age, I want to encourage myself to do challenges and keep trying to develop myself.

Through the Gazette, I also expect to overcome the hardship I encountered with English and increase my confidence in English. How about you? I think perhaps you are similar to me. I hope that you and other Keimyung students start the new semester with the Gazette like I will do.
