This winter vacation, classes in MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist), MCAS (Microsoft Certified Application Specialist), and practical computer skills will be held in Keimyung IT Center.

MCAS and MOS
MOS certificate is a world standard of competence in Microsoft Office programs. In January 2007, a new certificate came out, MCAS. MCAS tests practical skills based on Microsoft Office 2007.

To get MOS and MCAS certificates, Word (expert), Excel (expert), PowerPoint (core), and either Access (core) or Outlook (core) are necessary. If you have the four certificates, you can get a master qualification. MOS is conducted by computer and is a 100% practical exam. Expert deals with MS (Microsoft) Office as far as professional level, and core deals with MS Office to proficient level.

MOS started in the U.S.A and Japan, and came to Europe, Asia, and South America. In the U.S.A., a MOS certificate is utilized as evidence of the job applicants’ practical computer ability. A MOS certificate is utilized to evaluate employees’ ability and for promotion.

Practical Computer Skills
The practical computer skills exam is the National Certificate in Technology. The exam tests such practical computer abilities as spreadsheet and database, the necessary programs of office automation. The exam consists of written and practical examinations, divided into first, second, and third grade. The first grade, highest grade, tests general computer ability, spreadsheet, and database, but the second and third test one less subject than first grade-database. The practical exam is restricted to the successful candidates of the written examination. In the practical examination, the first grade tests business practices like spreadsheet and database, and the second and third estimate word processing capability. The practical exam uses both MS Excel and Access programs.

Computer certificates are considered to be necessary these days, reflecting the high frequency of computer use and their applications in real life. For example, Excel is essential to enter workplaces where office and administrative work are required. As computers have become one of the most intimate tools of business and hold an important part in our lives, spending your time mastering computers can lead you to a successful job.

You can enroll by visiting or telephoning the Center and apply until the day before classes start (except weekends).

The Center for International Education and the IT Education Center offer Keimyung students many chances to enhance their computer related abilities and language study through many lessons during the winter vacation. By spending time utilizing such good educational programs, the Gazette hopes Keimyung students have a fruitful winter vacation.
