Letters from Readers

My Personal View of the Gazette

Hello, my name is Lee Sang-wook. I'm a junior student in the Department of American Studies. I'm really happy that my article can be included in the Gazette. I sometimes read the Gazette, and I would like to express my personal view of the Gazette.

First, the Gazette needs to try to give useful information to international students. Most foreign students don't know much about Keimyung University and Korea. Hence, the Gazette needs to include many articles about Korean culture and society to say nothing of Keimyung University news. If the Gazette can play such roles, the sources in the articles or news will help foreign students easily adapt to Korea and Keimyung.

Second, I hope the Gazette will have more pages than now. Four pages are not enough to list various kinds of articles. In this sense, comparing the magazine format Gazette with the present newspaper format, I think that the magazine format was better in that it could deal with more articles than now.

Finally, I trust that the Gazette will keep representing Keimyung University and many more students will read the Gazette.

A Gazette holic's Wish

As one of the readers who have constantly read the Gazette's articles, I want to speak about what I think about the Gazette. For one thing, the Gazette enables me to improve my English communication proficiency with foreigners. Whenever I need to talk about interesting and current topics with foreigners, I quote and use a lot of information and topics from the Gazette. Even though most articles consist of simple sentences and words, they handle current hot issues such as the economic situation in Korea or America, the death of Korean celebrities, and so on. Those various issues written in English provide a good opportunity to learn English.

I think many foreigners read the Gazette to meet Korea, and Keimyung and Korean students improve their English skill by subscribing to the Gazette. So, I suggest that Gazette reporters write some sort of a schedule and plan a meeting with foreigners and Korean university students. Especially in the case of KELI foreigners, they want to talk to Korean students about Korean culture, but they are not given this kind of opportunity. If everybody knows where or when the meetings will take place through the information the Gazette offers, students can easily get to learn English culture and English from foreigners, and foreigners can also experience Korean life.

I want my university to be more international than other universities. I think the Gazette can contribute to improving the image of Keimyung. As far as I know, he Gazette has such a potential influence. Moreover, I know every reporter in the Gazette works hard to issue a good newspaper all the time.
