Da Capo

A road movie is a movie about people finding their identity or meeting new people through their travels. The Gazette would like to introduce a road movie to you called Da Capo.

Da Capo deals with the story of a lack of love. In current society, there are many boys who are abandoned by their parents and also many children who run away from home because of their parents' remarriage. The movie shows a meeting between an abandoned boy and a girl who left her home due to her father's remarriage. Yesu, meaning Jesus, is an 8 year old abandoned boy who is found in a horse barn at a church's child-care institution. He grows up at the child-care institution and becomes a sentimental boy, pining for his family. Spending his childhood there, the boy happens to meet a 20 year-old girl whose name is Jean D'Arc and who also ran away from her home because of her father's remarriage. The girl, observing his situation, feels that the boy’s situation is so miserable that she decides to take care of him. Yesu, who has painful memories from his abused childhood, and Jean D'Arc, start to recover from their mental pain by trying to open their minds to each other while travelling.

Jean D'Arc and Yesu reveal their pain to each other and get to know each other better. Their profound conversations come to our mind and give a strong impression to the audience. In addition, the fine and peaceful backgrounds of the movie harmonize with the vivid scenes and fantastic atmosphere of the movie to accentuate the theme of the movie. Unfortunately, however, the movie doesn't end with a happy conclusion. Before long, Jean D'Arc leaves Yesu in the child-care institution, so Yesu gets lonely again. The impact of the loneliness he comes to feel again is so hard to bear that he decides to kill himself. He runs up a hill until he has no breath left and shouts, "Let's live together."

Even though this movie had a low-budget, it effectively illuminates the life of wounded and lonely people who were abandoned by, or left, other people. The two characters can get to understand each others' sadness as they are in a similar situation. They get to share and thank the other person who helps him or her. This movie shows the importance of loving and being loved, which is the most important thing in life.

As winter is drawing near, how about showing warm concern to your family or neighbors? Showing a little concern can give your neighbors courage, and it can make society warmer than it is now.
