To Achieve Your Dream

Nowadays, we can easily hear and see the news about university students’ employment difficulties. In this Gazette, we publish useful information for you: an introduction of the Office of Employment Support, Job Cafe, how to write a resume and a personal introduction, and job fairs. By providing you with useful information, the Gazette hopes to make your job search more successful.

The Office of Employment Support

The Office of Employment Support, in the annex next to Bauer Hall, has many programs for KMU students’ successful employment.

Main Programs
- Employment Cafe: This cafe offers an individual consultation program, but it also hopes to offer a group consultation program in the near future. Last year, approximately 1000 students participated in the individual consultation program. The program is meant not only to help students choose their careers wisely but also to offer encouraging advice.
- Mock TOEIC and CAT TOEIC: Held once a month free of charge.
- Publication of books related to employment: Books which summarize the points for successful employment.
- Vocational education: Once a year, the office of Employment Support offers a special vocational education program to students who want to be flight attendants under the sponsorship of Asiana Airlines. Through this program, the students can experience the work of a flight attendant.

The office offers other useful programs such as vocational seminars, employment lectures, education programs, receipt of applications for jobs and part time jobs online, and various camps related to employment.

Park Dong-seob, the head of the Office of Employment Support said, “I want to point out to students that they should try to find new information, search for good programs, find appropriate programs for them, and actively participate in them. Don’t concentrate too much just on your TOEIC score or your average grade. Do something distinctive which can reveal yourself, your ability, and your creativity. In addition, you can do anything you want to and become the person you want to be!”

For more information, visit the Web site: http://jobs.kmu.ac.kr or call 580-6043. If you want to visit the Office of Employment Support, opening hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Resume and Personal Introduction

Students who prepare for employment should care about their TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) score, certificates that are helpful for getting a job, and grades. However, the most important thing in employment can be a resume and a personal introduction. Through these papers, you can show companies that you are the person they need. Companies do not want people who only have basic skills. They want active and creative people who also have basic skills.

Resume
A resume makes your first impression on a company. Therefore, it is important to practice writing resumes. You should consider both the structure and format of your resume, for example, headings, font style, and font size. In addition, you should observe what the company requires. These are helpful tips for writing your resume:
ㆍ Record activities related to your application. Do not record unnecessary activities.
ㆍ Reveal your capabilities and qualifications. For instance, indicate your computer literacy in detail: “Level 1 certificate in Microsoft Office PowerPoint and Excel.”
ㆍ Make sure there are no wrong words or missing words. You must check your files before sending your documents.
ㆍ After writing your resume, you should include the date, your name, and your seal.

Personal Introduction
You can express your talents and abilities to the company through the personal introduction. Show them you are a suitable person for their company.
In the personal introduction, you don’t need to introduce your personal history. Deliver information about your job abilities, but don’t exaggerate them. This document can be question material for an interview, so you should review the contents in preparation for an interview.
ㆍ You should write on your development as an individual, your merits and faults, extramural activities, application motivation, ambitions, and special skills
ㆍ Write about things that distinguish you from others. In a personal introduction, you can express your competitiveness. Be active and positive.
ㆍ Tell what you plan to do after joining the company. It is important to show that you can contribute to the company.
ㆍ Clearly express your motivation for applying and your possibilities for future growth. Impress the organization by revealing your goal-oriented mind and enthusiasm.
