On March 16, Keimyung University presented the President’s Special Scholarship to Ahn Jae-geun, who rescued fellow sailors in the Cheonan sinking. He was selected for the scholarship because Keimyung judged that he did rescue work very well and he set an example of Keimyung University’s educational philosophy of love and volunteer service.

President Synn, who presented the scholarship in person, said that his parents have raised him well. Also he emphasized, “I believe in your potential, so you have to improve yourself and be a needed person in society.”

Ahn Jae-geun said that it was a very hard time physically and mentally, but thanks to the people around him who cared for and helped him, he recovered quickly. He said, “I only tried to do my duty as a soldier.
