On July 7, ceremonies marking the leaving of office of President Lee Jin-woo, the 8th president, and the inauguration of President Synn Il-hi as the 9th president, were held in the main hall of Adams Chapel.
Approximately 1000 people, including Bae In-ho, the Chief of the Keimyung Alumni Association, Jeong Soon-mo, the Chief of the Board of Directors , Lars Vargo, the Swedish Ambassador to Korea, Kim Jong-dae, the ex-superintendent of educational affairs of Daegu, and many honored guests, professors, and faculty, attended.
In his leaving address, ex-president Lee Jin-woo said, "For the past four years, I have striven to enhance the quality of education in Keimyung University and to promote a communication-centered atmosphere on campus. I now return to my position as a scholar with the determination to continue my efforts in academia."
President Synn Il-hi stated, "My appointment as the 9th president stems from the hope of the Board of Directors that previously unaccomplished tasks can be realized. Keeping this hope in mind, I will work toward enhancing the reputation of Keimyung University. In addition, I will help Keimyung play a pivotal role in reviving the pioneer spirit of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area and bring all the university members together to make Keimyung a perpetually developing university on the basis of human nature, vitality, morality, and autonomy."
The ceremony received considerable attention both locally and further afield, thus underlining the growing stature of Keimyung University and providing a fitting inauguration of President Synn's tenure.
