Keimyung University, as a leader in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk region, is setting up the foundations for a U-Campus(Ubiquitous Campus) through a WIBRO (Wireless Broadband Internet) service from March 2008.

On March 7, Lee Jin-woo, the president of the university, and No Dae-jeon, the chief of KT Daegu, signed an agreement to set up a WIBRO campus. Both parties agreed to an exchange of human and material resources to set up a WIBRO zone and thereafter a U-Campus.

At the end of January, Keimyung finished the installation and trial of necessary equipment based on an agreement with KT last year.

When the service opens to Keimyung students, they can use wireless Internet freely with PDA, and cellular phones both on and off campus. Keimyung University had already taken a step toward a U-Campus by offering WIBRO through the existing wire and wireless LAN network.

Prof. Kang Mun-sik, the head of the Keimyung Office of Information & Communications, explained, "Keimyung students can easily join the WIBRO service through the university homepage, and will be able to use their spare time commuting from home to school to take classes, check attendance, submit assignments, apply for examinations, and access all kinds of academic information.”Staff and students in Keimyung can use the KT WIBRO service for free for three months from March 2008.
