Han Sam-hwa, the President of Samhan C1, has consistently donated development fundsto ourschool. In recognition of hissocial contributions, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering from our school in 2022. Through decades of contributions, he hasfulfilled the role of a responsible corporate citizen, earning him a place in the “KeimyungBridge HonorsClub.” We had the opportunity tomeet President Han Sam-hwa of SamhanC1.
Q : Was thereaspecialreasonfordonatingto our university? I am very proud to be a part of the Keimyung Bridge Honors Club. I have always resonated with Keimyung University’s educational philosophy of “For a nation of truth, justice, and love.” I’ve heard that Keimyung University not only engages in exchanges with other countries but also actively serves the local community to fulfill this educational philosophy. I am glad to contribute to a university that works for society.
Q : Was thereaparticularaspectyoufocused on during the construction of our campus and DongsanHospital? The “C” in “SamhanC1” stands for “ceramic,” a product fired from earth at high intensity, and “1” reflects our goal to become the best in the world. Since both Keimyung University and Dongsan Library were built with SamhanC1’s loess bricks, I have a deep affection for them. Loess bricks not only create an aesthetic effect but also increase oxygen levels and decrease carbon levels in the air. We did our best to provide a comfortable environment on the urban campus.
Q : What does“earth”mean to you? In one word, earth isthe “source of life.” All living beings, whether people or animals, come from the earth and return to it. This source of life has many benefits. In construction, brick is the most suitable building material when considering insulation, humidity control, and maintenance costs. Earth is an excellent resource both economically and environmentally.
Q : What has motivated you to continue giving for so many years? I believe companies should play a necessary role in society. Thisis why, in April this year, we decided to donate profitsfrom our businessto addressthe national issue oflow birth rates. Although birth is crucial to our future, many people are giving up on it due to economic and psychological burdens associated with education and personal circumstances. We strive to be a company that contributesto addressing these issues, even if we aren’t affluent.
Q : Doyouhave any advice for students as an entrepreneur? The four yearsin university are a crucial period in one’slife.Just asIsrael encourages all citizensto acquire at least one skill , students should reflect on their role in society and develop diverse skills. Companies look at whether students are mentally and physically prepared for employment orself-employment. What matters more than an academic background is what they have actually learned and experienced. I hope students can use these precious four years in university to shape their futures with confidence.
