Each semester, KMU selects Buddy students to assist invited international exchange students and those participating in the semester abroad program with their transition to life in Korea and the univer sity. These Buddy students, who are domestic KMU students, play a crucial role in helping international students adapt to school life and Korean culture. Through this exchange, both international and KMU students gain valuable cultural experiences and broaden their intercultural understanding.
Students interested in partnering with interna tional students and who are proficient in a foreign language can apply for the Buddy Program by sub mitting an application and foreign language profi ciency score through the ‘Keimyung Student Portal’ website.
Selected Buddy students are responsible for guiding international students in various aspects of campus and off-campus life, including assisting with dormitory check-ins, course registration changes, academic guidance, and facilitating lan guage and cultural exchange activities. Additionally, they support participation in both on-campus and off-campus events. The university provides finan cial support for program activities, and among the volunteers, a lead Buddy is selected to receive a cer tificate of participation issued by the Dean of Inter national Affairs, along with additional financial compensation.
At the end of the semester, Buddy students who submit a final activity report will receive ‘Compass K’ points. This program is a good opportunity for students to build confidence in their foreign lan guage skills and learn about different cultures.
