In accordance with plans by the Ministry for Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs to increase the number of colleges of pharmacy, Keimyung University has begun preparations to establish a college of pharmacy.

One of the reasons Keimyung University wants to establish a college of pharmacy is Dongsan Medical Center was originally founded as a small Western medicine clinic called the “American Pharmacy” in 1899. Keimyung has tried to establish a college of pharmacy nine times since 1980 but failed because of institutional restrictions.

Keimyung has already secured 100 billion won which is needed to establish and operate the college. The School of Medicine, College of Nursing, and Institute for Industrial Science are scheduled to move to Seongseo campus around the end of this year, and Dongsan Medical Center will move in 2013. Keimyung hopes to establish the department of pharmacy by next January.
