Gum Nan-se Appointed Special Aide to President

Gum Nan-se, the musical director and permanent conductor of the Euro-Asian Philharmonic Orchestra (EAPO), was appointed a Special Aide to the President of Keimyung University on September 24. A Special Aide is an honorary post, and the holder performs many roles like giving special lectures and concerts, and inviting great scholars from abroad. Gum is to take up his post from October 1.

In the ceremony of appointment, Synn Il-hi, the president of Keimyung University, said, “I heartily would like to congratulate Gum Nan-se for accepting the post, and I look forward to his contribution to developing Keimyung.” Gum said, “I will endeavor to perform my role as a Special Aide to the best of my ability.”

Gum graduated from the department of composition in the college of music in Seoul National University and Berlin University of the Arts. After winning the prize at the competition of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation, he served as Music Director of the European Masters Orchestra in 1987 and worked as a conductor in the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Deutsche Kammer Orchestra in Frankfurt, and so on. He has been engaged in the activities of EAPO since its founding in 1998. He also acts as the Artistic Director of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2006-2008 season and is currently serving in the music faculty of Kyunghee University as a professor.
