Vukan R. Vuchic’s Special Lecture


On May 27, Professor Vukan R. Vuchic’s special lecture was held in the audiovisual room of Hengso Museum. He is known as a scholar of traffic engineering. The theme of the lecture was transportation and the city. In the lecture, he said, “City transportation systems for vehicles have failed. Cities should be people-oriented based on public transportation.”

About 350 people attended the lecture including many students from the Department of Transportation Engineering and the Department of Urban Planning, many faculty members, and President Synn Il-hi.

In this lecture, Professor Vuchic said, “As American cities grew, the United States government constructed highways in the center of cities to solve increasing traffic congestion. However, now, the United States wants to return to the past by making parks and green spaces.” He explained the changes in modern city and traffic environments in detail. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of the relationship between cities and transportation and using public transportation.
