Enjoy Your Festival!

We have a number of school events in a year. Not only does the school have festivals, but also each department has its special festival. You already know about famous events in your department, and also have an experience attending events like membership training. However, there are many festivals in your department and other departments. If you participate in special festivals, you can have amusement and learn about your major.

College of Humanities
Department of English Language & Literature

English Fall Festival
Since 1983, the Department of English Language and Literature has held English Fall Festival every fall semester in November. It promotes the participation of the students in literary activity using English. In addition, through reciting English poems and performing a play in English, students who major in English can express their passion and creativity. Also, through the performances of native professors and students, students and others can enjoy the festival more delightfully. The main participants are students and professors of English Literature, seniors who already have graduated from English Language and Literature, and other students who are interested in this festival. This festival also makes a connection between students and alumni.

English Café
Every month, to give students a chance to speak English, the Department of English Language and Literature holds an English Café in the International Lounge in Bauer Hall. In this event, students, Korean professors, and professors who speak English as a native language get together to enjoy communicating in English. Themes for the café include "Christmas Café," "Halloween Café," and "Movie Café." The meaning of this event is to provide a chance for students to speak English outside class and to develop their confidence in and ability to speak English.

Department of Japanese Language & Literature

Japanese Fall Festival
Since 2003, Japanese Fall Festival has been held at this time. In this event, students recite Japanese poems, hold a Japanese speech contest, and perform a play. Once a year in November, this festival provides cultural exchange with Japanese exchange students and students who come from sister universities, for example, St. Andrews University, Hiroshima Shudo University, University of the Ryukyus, and Aoyama Gakuin University. The main purpose of this event is to promote Japanese culture and the development of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature.

Japanese Culture Share
Twice a year, in May and September, you can experience Japanese culture like games, songs, and even cookies. As an uncommon experience, it can help students to understand Japan's culture and inspire confidence in students who major in Japanese Language and Literature.

Department of Chinese Language & Literature

Korean-Chinese Friendship Night
Once each semester, regular students and Chinese foreign students share each other's culture and practice speaking Chinese for two hours in the International Lounge. Through this event, students and exchange students can become more familiar and make new friends. In addition, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature has another event. The Deunggo Festival is one of the famous festivals in the Department of Chinese Language & Literature, and it is held every October. The name deunggo is taken from a custom of ancient China. The purpose of deunggo was pursuing the harmony of members of the family. In addition, Chinese believe that through harmony with nature, people can achieve their dreams and desires. Based on this spirit the Department of Chinese Language and Literature pursues harmony between students, Chinese exchange students, and alumni. Also, through performing a play and reciting Chinese poems, students can make friends with other students.

Mock Trial
In November, The Law Festival is held in the Faculty of Law. The Mock Trial is the most famous event in The Law Festival, and this year will mark the twentieth. The Mock Trial, which imitates a real trial, proceeds with argument, pleading, examination, and judgment. By applying a theoretical law class to real society, students can integrate theory with reality. Last year, the topic of the Mock Trial was about civil law. A woman became pregnant in her old age, so there was some risk of Down syndrome. She wanted to know if her unborn child had a possibility of Down syndrome, so she consulted a doctor. The doctor assured her everything was fine. However, after she gave birth, the baby had Down syndrome. As a result, the woman instituted a suit against the doctor. The judgment was for the plaintiff, and the result of the Mock Trial was same with precedent.

Department of Early Childhood Education


Ahaenuri

Ahaenuri is the biggest and the most important festival held by the Department of Early Childhood Education. The Department of Early Childhood Education connects with the local community and exhibits many works. A lot of kindergarten teachers and children watch the play in Ahaenuri festival. All students and faculty members in the Department of Early Childhood Education participate in the festival. Many other works, including students' paintings and pictures, are exhibited, and various programs including rhythmic gymnastics, puppet plays, and a magic show are planned. The "I-zoa" club in the Department of Early Childhood Education makes dolls and puppets, writes the script, manages the sound and light, and supervises the whole play by themselves. Also I-zoa is active in various fields such as competitions. Last year, the I-zoa team won the first prize in the 20th Chuncheon Puppet Festival.

Department of Taekwondo


Keimyung Taekwondo Festival

The purpose of the festival is to show the Department of Taekwondo students' improved ability, expand the fame of taekwondo, and improve the image of the Department of Taekwondo with local residents. Through the festival, they improve relations between the Department of Taekwondo students and the local taekwondo community. The festival has taekwondo performances, gymnastics, and smashing bricks. At the closing ceremony, the audience can take a picture with the Department of Taekwondo students.

The American Studies Festival

The American Studies Festival is the biggest event in the Department of American Studies. It is a chance for freshmen and undergraduate students in the department to show their passion, and they can get acquainted with other classmates in this festival. Last festival, American Studies students performed the musical Grease and Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas.

Department of Chinese Studies

Chinese Culture Night

Chinese Culture Night is a festival in the Department of Chinese Studies. The festival was held 22 times from 1989 to 2008. The former festival was held in the middle of May every year, but starting from 2009, the festival will be held in the second semester. The purpose of the festival is for seniors and juniors to meet and exhibit the product of the Department of Chinese Studies' hard work. The students prepare props and other things required for the play and promote exchange between seniors and juniors. The festival has a play, Chinese songs, a dance performed with a lion and dragon mask, and traditional Chinese dress fashion show. Also students, professors, and graduates of the Department of Chinese Studies have a good time and try to introduce Chinese culture. Everyone enjoys the festival.

Department of Japanese Studies

Japanese Play

The Japanese Play of the Department of Japanese Studies has been held since 1983. Through this event, Japanese Studies students can be one and improve their department's value. The purpose of this event is for students to make a play and write a script by themselves. Furthermore, seniors teach pronunciation and acting to juniors. It can improve their friendship.

Department of European Studies

English Forum

English Forum engages the service of a person with direct experience of European countries or cultures to lead a discussion and give an informative and professional presentation in English. This forum is held two or three times every semester. In each forum, the guest speaker makes a speech for 30 minutes and a question and answer session follows the presentation. Students and professors express their views and opinions. This forum is an educational class and contributes to students' conversation and understanding skills.

Department of Spanish & Latin American Studies

Latin Festival

The Latin Festival is a program where many students take part in eating Spanish and Latin food, watching Spanish movies, and Latin dance class. It allows students to understand Spanish and Latin culture more easily.
