Everything Everywhere All at Once is a 2022 independent film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The leading actress, Michelle Yeoh plays the character Evelyn Quan Wang who was having a troubled time and gets caught up in a multiverse battle. Jobu Topaki, antagonist of the movie, played by Stephanie Hsu. 

The movie starts by showing Evelyn’s busy life. She’s a Chinese American immigrant and makes a living by running a laundromat with her husband Waymond. But their Laundromat is facing tax problems and she has to take care of her old father, so she visits a Chinese New Year party.  At the same time, her daughter, Joy, is also visiting, and does not make the situation any better. Evelyn dislikes Joy’s life choices and that leads to a fight. During a meeting with a tax officer, a multiverse version of Waymond takes over Waymond’s body and she faces a threat from Jobu Tupaki who is trying to destroy the multiverse. She discovers the millions of possibilities through every life choice in the multiverse and tries to defeat Jobu, who is actually another version of Joy, using power from another version of herself. In that process, she follows Waymond’s plea to be kind and embrace her daughter, solving the problem.  

Everything Everywhere All at Once shows the conflict between parent and child that can come from their different points of view. How Evelyn accepts her life and her daughter gives us a chance to think about our own life. This movie can be watched on various OTT services and even at Dongsan library by borrowing the DVD.
