Daegu’s newest addition to its subway system is actually a monorail, which opened on April 23, 2015. This monorail runs from Chilgok Kyungpook National University Medical Center Station to Yongji Station in Suseong-gu. There are many tourist attractions to visit by riding the monorail, so I will introduce some of them.

First, I will introduce Suseong Lake. You can explore the lake by taking a ride on a small tour boat or duck boat. There is a good road to take a walk around Suseong Lake. Also, you can listen to some music in the evening because there is a fountain that plays music. If you want something more exciting, check out the small amusement park or ice rink near Suseong Lake. There are also many cafes and restaurants near the trail. One particularly popular area to eat and drink is called Deunalgil. This area has 123 restaurants with various kinds of food such as Chinese, Japanese or Korean.


The second place to visit is Children’s Hall, which is a museum for children, that has many attractions. You can see many exhibitions such as fossils and seashells. Also, you can see models such as airplanes and trains outside of Children’s Hall.

There are two places to go after visiting Children’s Hall: Daegu Children’s Traffic Land and DISE (Daegu Institue of Science Education). Traffic Land is a place to teach traffic rules to children. DISE is a science museum for students. You can see fish and insects. Also, you can experience many scientific principles there.


The third place is, Dalseong Park, which is famous for its zoo. You can see many animals such as lions, tigers, bears, elephants and monkeys there. Also, there are many kinds of birds there. In addition, there is the Museum of Native Culture and History of Daegu. You can learn about the history of Daegu and see some historical relics. Another fun place to visit near the park is Seomun Market which I will tell you about next.


There are four markets you can visit by taking the monorail: Suseong, Seomun, Paldal and Maecheon Markets. Suseong Market came into existence after Taebaek and Dongseong Markets merged. Seomun Market is one of the top three markets in Korea. This market is composed of eight districts with about 5,500 shops and 30,000 merchants. Many products such as fruits, seafoood and textiles are available. Paldal Market is one of the three top markets of Daegu. Many products such as vegetables and fruits can be found there. Maecheon Market is where we can buy farm products and seafood at cheap prices. There are many places to go by riding Daegu’s monorail. I’m sure you’ll be happy if you visit one or more of these places.
