ARIMI

ARIMI is a student volunteer group that publicizes Keimyung University. ARIMI was established in 1995 and was the first public relations program set up by students of a Korean university. ARIMI has been a shining example to other universities. The name ARIMI implies publicity and publicizing in Korean. ARIMI is essential to maintain a good image of KMU to others. The “Gazette” interviewed Lee Gi-hwa, one ARIMI member in order to inform KMU students about their activities.

1. Could you introduce ARIMI to KMU students?
KMU students aren't generally aware of what ARIMI is. We are representatives of KMU who share information about KMU to people and visitors. ARIMI is composed of 20 students. We try to keep a good image of KMU and promote KMU positively as much as we can.

2. Would you tell us about the qualifications needed to become an ARIMI member?
First, applicants should have pride and knowledge about KMU. In the case of freshmen, they should have over “5” (grade) of University Entrance Exam. Applicants who are sophomores should have examination scores that are higher than 3.0. Male students who have finished military service can apply.

3. What is difficult about being an ARIMI member?
The hardest thing is to concentrate on my examination scores because it is hard to do ARIMI and learn my major at the same time. As a member of ARIMI, relationships between upper and lower grades are stricter than other clubs. The 3 month training period was also difficult.

4. What are the benefits of ARIMI membership?
ARIMI members receive one third of their tuition fees as a scholarship each semester. We also get priority over other students in the selecting of exchange students to study abroad. We can also take educational course cheaper than other students. ARIMI is publicized on the KMU website and in the KMU magazine. We have lots of opportunities to get a job.

5. Would you tell us about your most interesting experience?
When I was a freshmen I learnt that if I don't know the answer to a question I should be honest and answer, “I don't know.” One day while passing the new Bauer Hall construction site, some visitors approached me. They asked me what was being built. Actually I had never heard any information about that so I answered, “It will be a zoo.” My senior scolded me because I gave the visitors wrong information.

6. Would you say something to the “Keimyung Gazette” readers?
I am sorry that lots of students don't apply for ARIMI membership in spite of their interest. If you become an ARIMI member, you can gain good experiences from your university days. I hope that students have a good image of us. Students who are interested in ARIMI can visit our website arimi.kmu.ac.kr. Every March, ARIMI application forms are distributed to each department and Bauer Hall. I hope lots of students will apply.
