Traditional and Modern City, Jeonju



1. Jeonju Hanok Village

Jeonju Hanok Village is located in the center of Jeonju and is the largest Hanok village in Korea. In this village there are 700 Hanok, traditional Korean houses, and travelers can experience various aspects of traditional culture such as handicrafts. Hanok Village is the landmark of Jeonju, which is known as the most Korean city.


2. Gyunggijeon

Gyunggijeon is a palace built at a blessed site. Gyunggijeon was built to enshrine the portrait of King Taejo Lee Sung-gye who founded the Joseon Dynasty. Tourists can easily find Gyunggijeon because it is located near Jeonju Hanok Village.


3. Jeondong Cathedral

Jeondong Cathedral is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Korea, and the oldest cathedral in Jeonju. This cathedral has the magnificence of Romanesque style and beautiful stained-glass windows. Also, this attraction is famous for being one of the locations in the movie Promise.


4. Chungnyun mall in Nambu Market

Nambu Market is rich in many foods and attractions and is located near Jeonju Hanok Village. The second floor of Chungnyun mall has 14 unique shops that are different from traditional market shops. Some examples are a cat-themed cafe and a board game bar. Tourists can also enjoy the night market every Saturday.


5. Gyodong Art Center

Gyodong Art Center is the place where artists interact with the public and is where fresh works are created. If you go in Gyodong Art Center, you can slowly enjoy the artists’ works.


6. Choi Myeong Hee Literary Museum

Choi Myeong Hee Literary Museum was built to honor Choi Myeong Hee who is the author of the novel “Honbul”. Tourists can learn about her literary world and life and can experience writing Choi Myeong Hee font and sending postcards.

Tip

In Jeonju, tourists can travel on foot without the use of public transportation because most attractions are near one central attraction: the Hanok Village. The distance between the attractions is 5 to 10 minutes by foot, so tourists can easily see many attractions in Jeonju.
