Keimyung Caritas

Lately, many people are concerned about volunteering or donating activities. We can see them through entertainer couples like Cha In-pyo and Shin Ae-ra and Noh Sean and Jung Hye-young. Noh and Jung volunteer on their wedding anniversary, and the two couples support other countries’ children by donating some money every month.
In Keimyung, there is a group carrying out such volunteer activities; it is Keimyung Caritas.

For ten years, Dongsan Medical Center staff have raised funds by donating 1% of their monthly salary and used it for missionary and volunteer work. Keimyung Overseas Volunteers Corps has done volunteer work in China, Nepal, and Vietnam since 2002. In addition to them, many other Keimyung people participate in such activities. Keimyung staff, including President Synn, voluntarily donate 1% of their monthly salaries. The donation money is used to make up for poor housing and medical and educational environments nationally and internationally.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Keimyung in 2004 and the start of a new half century in 2005 and to promote the revitalization of donation culture, Keimyung Caritas was founded. By using the past experience, Keimyung Caritas has systemized and extended the purpose and the scope of volunteering.

At the beginning of the year, Keimyung Caritas advertise their activities and volunteering programs for the year. Since 2006, Caritas has supported the Keimyung Overseas Volunteers Corps in summer and winter.

The number of mentors is about twenty to twenty five people who are capable of teaching middle school students and are equipped with a volunteering mind and a sense of duty. Mentoring has various sections, several offered more than twice a week.
